Pinagrealan Cave is:
- A DENR Class II Protected Cave
- A National Historical Commission Recognized Historical Site
- A Bulacan Government Recognized Historical Site

On the 30th October 2012, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje, signed DENR Memorandum Circular No. 2012-03 entitled “List of Classified Caves“. This document classified Pinagrealan Cave as a Class II Protected Cave within this definition:
“Caves with areas or portions which have hazardous conditions and contain sensitive geological, archaeological, cultural, historical and biological values or high quality ecosystem. It may be necessary to close sections of these caves seasonally or permanently. It is opened to experienced cavers or guided educational tours/visits.”
Pinagrealan Cave is one of only two caves in Bulacan to be classified in this manner. The other DENR Class II Classified Cave in Bulacan is Puning Cave.
Dated July 2014, the Initial Environmental Examination, Philippines: Angat Water Transmission Improvement report states:
“Pinagrealan Cave, which is known a historical landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.”
Dated August 2014 the Technical Assistance Consultant’s Report: Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project Report states:
“Pinagrealan Cave is is a declared historical landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. The local government of Norzagaray also recognizes its historical and tourism importance. This was included in Norzagaray CLUP 2011-2020.”
“Some caves in the Philippines have historical significance. The Pinagrealan Cave in Bulacan was used by the first Philippine President – Emilio Aguinaldo – as a refuge during the FilipinoAmerican War.”
The above report also states that Pinagrealan Cave is a National Historic Site protected under Presidential Decree No. 374/1974.
There is a marker at the site from the Municipality of Norzagaray also mentioning the significance of Pinagrealan Cave. The historical market was placed there during the Mayoralty of Mayor Feliciano Legaspi Sr In 2012, when the Municipality of Norzagaray declared Pinagrealan Cave a protected historical site.
